The classic method is like servers are configured; remove Network Manager and set all your details in /etc/network/interfaces. If you ssh into it, it would seem handy to set up a static IP address. Here, as an example, is the interfaces file on my desktop machine:

auto eth0
#iface eth0 inet dhcp
iface eth0 inet static
address 192.168.1.117
netmask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.1.254
Just be sure the static address is outside the DHCP range of the router.
