Simply, KDE apps on GNOME won't have the same style to their interface (buttons etc.) as GNOME apps in GNOME, and vice versa with KDE.

They default to a greyish-looking theme in my experience.

Interesting. That's not my experience at all. I just fired up a few GNOME apps, including gParted and gThumb, to make sure I'm remembering right! They look great in KDE.

FWIW, I'm still using KDE 4.2 on 9.04.
