Good luck, all I can say is that I've never seen that problem before so I think there's a high chance you won't encounter it ever again.
No that sounds like a config issue, if this is still mandriva we're talking about I can't help as they use a completly different config layout to debian/ubuntu.
What about the ones from the medibuntu repos, do you know if they have the fix? This might also be connected to the vlc problems as it uses libavcodec as well...
Thats interesting, do you also get the kernel trace (the bit before --[ end trace ...) when that happens?
Dropping into busybox can be the result of several different problems with the root file...
Take a look here https://help.ubuntu.com/10.10/installation-guide/i386/module-details.html (just scroll down to the section about partitioning) its rather wordy since its based on the debian...
It depends if mandriva has an up to date version of the ath9k_htc wireless driver and it may install its firmware in a different place. You can see if there is a firmware package in the mandriva...
OK try booting off a live cd and see if you can access your files from there, I think you'll probably have to re-install but I'm rather afraid that your filesystem is severely damaged which would...
To be honest if you've no specific reason to got for full-disk encryption you may as well use the standard installer and (on the user setup page) select "require my password to login and decrypt my...
Hmm seems to be no firmware package for it right now. . .
Try downloading http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/dwmw2/linux-firmware.git;a=blob_plain;f=ar7010_1_1.fw;hb=HEAD (save as...
I think all you need to do is run the hardware drivers / restricted drivers manager from the system menu and activate any wireless driver you see (which tbh I should've thought of several posts ago).
In that case could you open a terminal and copy and past here the output from;
dmesg|tail
lsusb
immediately after you've plugged the adapter in.
Do you want to 'burn' the subtitles into the video or just have them available as an option?
For the former you're going to have to re-encode the video so I'd recommend handbrake (from handbrake.fr...
Have you tried booting with the older kernel (the third option in the list)?
Try installing handbrake from www.handbrake.fr its a dvd ripper/encoder but if you don't mind re-encoding the video as well it can be set mixdown to stereo.
Getting proper audio sync without...
If if works clicking on the network manager applet in the panel will show two lists of available wireless networks (one from the internal chip and one from the usb adapter).
In my previous post I...
Does sound from your other programs work correctly?
Amarok, being a KDE application will use slightly different sound settings to standard ubuntu applications. You can try installing KDE's...
Have you tried? If you've looking for a program to test it try installing cheese. Lots of cheap plug and play webcams are supported as they generally use one of a few different chips and are simply...
Why not simply let the installer decide how big to make the partitions, its best not to customise such things untill you've got an idea of what your useage is likely to be.
If you've prepared to do...
lshw is included in the default install, if you type
sudo lshw -html > hw.html into a terminal it will create a html file called hw.html with a nicely layed-out, detailed hardware list.
The page you link to looks rather outdated since it refers to kernel 2.6.30 (maverick is on .35) and tbh you're not going to have much luck following a gentoo howto on ubuntu. Gentoo is compiled from...
To be honest I don't really see that much of an advantge over the using the alternate cd and just encrypting your home partition (or just encrypting your home directory which is offered by the live...
The python versions in question come from the official -updates repo not from any ppa's so the disabling of ppa's shouldn't make any difference.
The correct way to clean the package cache is using...
in that case the second link should be;

OK it looks to me like you've had an interrupted upgrade of the python packages (they should all be upgraded at once to avoid this kind of situation).
I think the best thing to do now would be to...
