try creating a symbolic link to the new adempiere script in the relevant RC_.d directory. For example by default I think ubuntu boots into init 2 (though that might differ for the server version?)...
I have the same issue with 9.04 did you ever find the solution?
I can always use DNS but it's a pain for temp changes to test something.
