[ubuntu] Re: ubuntu VM not working

What information do you think someone trying to help would need? How about providing that?

Don't make it hard for people to help, forcing them to be archeologists.
    We aren't there.

    [ubuntu] Re: trash floder

I didn't see any mention of "trash" in the virtualmin documentation, so I doubt it exists. It certainly wouldn't be standard on any server. However, I've never used virtualmin.
  3. [ubuntu] Re: move existing running kvm images to a different folder on server question

    The trick for modifying the libvirt XML is to use virsh edit {machine name}
You can also use virsh dump {machine name}, edit the file, then use virsh define /path/to/machine-name.xml

    Of course,...

[ubuntu] Re: How to migrate my OS from HDD to SSD?

Easily is subjective. The easiest methods may not work, so do you want to waste time doing something that might not work?

First, the sector size on the 1 devices needs to be the same. That is...
  5. Re: file properties don't match exif tag info

Use the EXIF data for when the photo was taken.
Use the file system data for when the file was copied to the computer.

That's how Linux/Unix works unless you use some special backup tool running...
  6. Re: how to output EVTEST result to a log txt?

Learn about file redirection. It is a basic Unix skill. Output to the terminal can be either stdout or stderr. These are 2 different output devices, so you may need only 1 of them or you might need...

    [ubuntu] Re: trash floder

Look for "Empty Trash" in the GUI.
If you use rm to delete it from an ssh CLI shell, it is gone.

    [ubuntu] Re: trash floder

Virtualmin documentation https://www.virtualmin.com/docs/getting-started/how-to-use-file-manager/#file-manager-keyboard-shortcuts doesn't mention trash at all.
    Servers don't have any Trash/...
  9. Re: What personal information sent to VPN server to initialize an open VPN?

Logs only contain what the programmer chooses. Usually logs are there to help fine issues, not provide all possible information sent. What gets logged is only what the programmer coded.

[ubuntu] Re: Confusion around Ubuntu/Linux Boot

The exact release you are using (we need the YY.MM) and the exact hardware being used matter. To provide the hardware, we need a report. There are lots of ways to provide that, but they all require...

    [ubuntu] Re: pipewire and dlna

    DLNA has 3 parts.

    Controller
    Renderer
    Server

No such thing as a "DLNA client."

They can be on the same device or 3 different devices.
  12. [ubuntu] Re: Why doesn't Ubuntu Update SNAPs during reboot

By default, snaps are checked for updates 4x every day. Why would you bother manually updating snaps if you want them updated daily.

I only allow the snap system to update on Saturdays. At 12.01...

[ubuntu] Re: Missing static IP in landscape-sysinfo

    ip addr
will show all IPs on a system. IPv4 and IPv4.

If you want a prettier report, use inxi -ixx. Leave off the added 'x' if you want less information or just inxi -i

    BTW, you should get a...
  14. Re: can not install Microsoft Edge on ubuntu 24.04

Since this post hasn't gotten any replies in the last day, thought I'd post so you knew someone read it.

Very few Linux users would touch Microsoft Edge. It isn't a core part of any Linux distro,...

    Re: Password and Login Screen

Ah. You can change the requirements for password complexity in the PAM settings. I'd have to look up the exact method, but you can do that just as easily.

There are methods for creating long,...
  16. [ubuntu_studio] Re: What 22.04 Background Services are Safe to Disable + Login Screen Turns Black

currentshaft, Good that you have a $1500+ GPU. Enjoy. The most I've ever spent on a GPU was $130 and that was for a 3dfx model.
I had nvidia GPUs for about 15 yrs, so my thoughts that "nvidia...

    Re: Password and Login Screen

If you want to change the passwd for the current username, use passwd without any arguments in a terminal.

If this is a local password, then that command will update the local password DB/shadow...

  19. Re: Trying to fix a hard drive; prompted need permissions...

I saw a quality 1TB SSD for $40 last week. It will last longer and be at least 5x faster.

Just get one with a SATA connector - in Samsung SSDs, the models that begin with an "8xx" are SATA. I...
  20. [ubuntu_studio] Re: What 22.04 Background Services are Safe to Disable + Login Screen Turns Black

Nothing constructive, just that nVidia sucks.

About 2 yrs ago, I removed nVidia from my last system here. Things are so much easier. In my situation, the iGPU in a Ryzen 5600G is faster than...

[ubuntu] Re: help with lxc networking

My stance is, if it is important enough to have a container, then it is important enough to have a static IP.
I'd never use DHCP for a container.
  22. Re: What personal information sent to VPN server to initialize an open VPN?

The only way to know for certain is to read the code. you can try using wireshark, but in theory, no traffic would be sent after the initial challenge setup packets. From that point on, everything...
  23. Re: Trying to fix a hard drive; prompted need permissions...

As I said, time of use doesn't matter. Date from manufacture does.

To know about the health of a HDD, use SMART data. smartctl is the tool for that. SMART data is only helpful about 78% of...
  24. Re: Error when running ansible-playbook from ubuntu20.04 ansible server to ubuntu24.0

    Try a fresh install.

Or just get the newer version of ansible directly from their project page and don't bother with the debian packages.
  25. Re: What personal information sent to VPN server to initialize an open VPN?

My reading says that traffic outside the Tor Browser needs to be specifically setup to use Tor. Looks like there is a per-application method to have each use Tor for networking, but it isn't enabled...
